A Note from Todd

"Oh, come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with the song of praise! For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods." (Psalm 95:1-3)

Our God is Great!

While our modern age is full of what many consider to be great things—great technology, great communication, great sports arenas, great concerts, great vacations, and more, there is perhaps not a more pressing need among modern Christians than an increased understanding and awareness of the incomparable greatness of our Holy God.

We impress upon our children the greatness of God. Early on, we teach them to pray "God is great. God is good, and we thank him for our food." Our children also sing "My God is so big, so strong and so mighty, there’s nothing my God cannot do."

However, we 21st Century Christians must ask ourselves whether we really do believe and live as though our God is great.

Over thirty years ago, J.I. Packer stated that "our faith is so feeble and our worship so flabby. We are modern people, and modern people, though they cherish great thoughts of themselves, have as a rule small thoughts of God."

Twelve years earlier, A.W. Tozer rightly observed "What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us. The history of mankind will probably show that no people has ever risen above its religion, and man’s spiritual history will positively demonstrate that no religion has ever been greater than its idea of God."

Would others look at our lives and determine that our God is indeed great? When you pray, do you realize that you are communicating with the God Who is alone great? When you read God’s Word do you find yourself more aware of and more confident in God’s greatness? Do the people of Paducah, Kentucky perceive that First Baptist Church is a people with a great God?

During our upcoming Sunday morning worship services, we will be exploring Scriptures which highlight the greatness of our God.

What an opportunity we have as the Body of Christ to respond corporately to our God by assembling before him and worshipping him. As we come together on Sunday mornings, may God’s Spirit empower our efforts and may Christ be honored as we worship our great God.

Revelation 22:21,
Todd

Women's Ministry

Women's NightWatch Bible Study
Are you loving well? We all deal with people who are a joy to love and those who are more difficult to love. Come join us in the COC Conference Room for four-weeks of Bible study beginning Thursday, July 19 at 6 pm. Let’s enjoy fun and fellowship with other women, laugh our heads off, shed a few tears, make new friends, and enjoy old friends as we all learn how to love well.

Through video we will hear four heart-to-heart messages from best-selling author and teacher Beth Moore. Taped at a Living Proof Live event, Beth describes different types of people — some easy to love, and some not so easy to love. These messages include hard-hitting truths as well as humor, all designed to help women embrace the Biblical mandate to love and to develop skills for loving others.

There will be no charge for the Bible study; however there is an optional 28-day journal that may be used as part of the 4-week study or as follow up for personal Bible study. The cost of the Journal is $6.00 and will be available for purchase on July 19. Please contact Nancy Rogers in the church office at 270-442-6038 x 210 to indicate your interest in participating and whether or not you would like for us to reserve you a copy of the Journal.

Seeking God While Desiring Motherhood
A six week, confidential look at God's plan for women experiencing infertility and secondary infertility. Through prayer, sharing personal experiences, group support, and Bible study, participants will explore the challenges of infertility and learn how to find peace in the midst of the pain. Course begins Wednesday, July 11 and runs from 6:00-7:30 pm. Call Tammy in the Discipleship Office, 442-2728, to register.

Thank You Notes

Dear First Baptist,
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to intern in the Media Productions at First Baptist. This internship enabled me to complete my college credits; but most importantly, it has allowed me to become acquainted personally with each of our ministers and church staff. I highly respect each one of them. They are such incredible servants and leaders in their areas of ministry.
Curt Stewart

I would like to personally thank Jen Baker for all of your 30 years of service in working with the newborn children. You have had all of my children as well as all of the children and young adults that were raised here at First Baptist. You are a very special person and I pray for God’s blessings on your family as you move on to another chapter in your life.
Lisa Crowell
