From the Pastor

Our great God has loved us with a great love! John says, "See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are." (1 John 3:1)

Consequently, our great God has called us to love Him with a great love - an all encompassing, holistic love.

During their journey, God commanded His people, "And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments and statutes of the LORD, which I am commanding you today for your good?" (Deuteronomy 10:12-13)

When asked to provide the greatest commandment, Jesus reached back to Deuteronomy 6 and replied, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." (Matthew 22:37)

Notice the comprehensiveness of Christ's command. All is stated three times, and Jesus calls us to love Him not just with one part of our being, but with every facet of our life. We are to love God with our hearts - our emotions, passions, feelings, etc. We are to love God with our souls - our will, commitment, determination, etc. And we are to love God with our minds - our thinking, intellect, reasoning, etc.

How easy it is to be imbalanced in our love for God - loving Him with our hearts, but not our minds. Having been steeped in the faith over time, our love for God can sometimes become a matter of mere correct actions that lack proper feeling or thinking. A real temptation for many is that love for God becomes merely an intellectual exercise which neglects attention to the will or the heart - none of these approaches are acceptable.

Christ calls us to a balanced and comprehensive, God-focused love. We are to love Him with all our hearts, all our souls, and all our minds. This means that the way we love God is evidenced on all fronts of our lives - our feeling (heart), our doing (soul), and our thinking (mind).

May God be glorified among us as we love Him completely - with heart, soul, and mind.

Revelation 22:21

Sunday Morning Volunteers
Be a Creation Station or UpStreet Small Group Volunteer!

Our Fall Semester begins September 3rd with Promotion Sunday. We need volunteers who can help us work with small groups of kids during our small group time (10:05 to 11:05). You could offer to help weekly or every other week. Small Group Volunteers will prepare a lesson and teach (all materials pre-assembled and ready) or will act as an assistant leader or helper. We especially need volunteers in Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and First, Second and Third grades. Can YOU help? Give Hutch a call at 442-2728 for more information.

Sunday Evening Awana Leaders
Be an Awana small group leader!

Our Awana program commences again this Fall, why don't you help us work with small groups of kids? Small Group Leaders help by listening to kids recite their scripture memory verses, and by accompanying them to their recreation time. No weekly preparation is necessary - helping in Awana is easy & fun! If you can help with preschool ages, early elementary, and preteens, give Hutch a call at 442-2728 for more information.

Thank You Notes

Dear Church Family,
47 new Christians in Romania now claim Christ as their Savior due in part to your faithfulness in prayer and support of our recent journey. Over 750 Romanian New Testaments and Bibles were distributed along with eye glasses that gave many the chance to read God's Word again. Countless new relationships were formed with the local church and supplies of food and clothing were delivered to those in great need. God's glory was overwhelming in Romania just as it is at FBC Paducah. Thank you for your faithfulness...we look forward to sharing with you in the days ahead.
Josh Kersey and Tom Unici

Dear Church Family,
Charles and I have felt over-whelmed by your many expressions of love, concern, and kindness during these past few weeks. My broken ankle is healing well and I will be with you again soon. I have often thought of these words from a beloved hymn "in loving kindness Jesus came" as so many of you have and continue to minister to us.
Love,
Gloria Winkler

Our sincere appreciation to our church family for the kindnesses and concern shown us during Bill's recent hospitalization. The calls, cards, notes, flowers, food, and, most of all, your prayers have blessed us. A special thank you to Jim and Hutch for their prayers and encouragement. Our hearts have been touched by the love of our First Baptist Family.
Bill and Dottie Stricklin

Dear Church Family,
Thank you for all the cards and prayers during my surgery and time of recovery in Florida with my daughter. I am hoping to be walking again by the first of September and am looking forward to returing to Paducah. The dozens of cards I received have really meant a great deal to my family and me. Thanks again.
Randle Thompson

Dear FBC Family,
Thank you so much for your prayers, cards, and other expressions of concern shown to me during my recent hospitalization.
Judy Joiner

Thank you for the beautiful flowers. Please continue to keep my family in your prayers during this difficult time.
Cordially,
Robert L. White
