With each passing day, I find myself more deeply and delightfully burdened to pray for you-the people of God known as First Baptist Church.
I am continually drawn to the Apostle Paul’s prayer for the Colossians. As Paul prayed for them, I am praying the same for you today.
"And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light." (Colossians 1:9-12)
In addition, I am praying for four truths to be even more and more evident among us.
1. May we be a people who love God.
A lawyer once asked Jesus "which is the great commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment." (Matthew 22:36-38)
As we strive to be who God has called us to be, may our love for God be ever growing. Our love for God is to be obvious in our hearts (our feelings), our souls (our commitments), and our minds (our thinking). I pray that this will be the ever-increasing case among us.
When others think about First Baptist Church, I pray that they will think, "Those people sure do love God!"
2. May we be a people who love God’s Word.
God has graciously revealed himself to us through His Holy Word. Without God’s Word, we would be ignorant of who he is. Indeed, God is powerfully at work among us through his Word which is "living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12)
May God give to us a deeper love for his Word so that we might know him more intimately, obey him more faithfully, and serve him more effectively.
When people think about First Baptist Church, I pray that they will think, "Those people sure do love God’s Word!"
3. May we be a people who love one another.
Jesus said "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." (John 13:34-35)
Paul prayed that the Philippians might have a love that abounds "more and more." (Philippians 1:9)
May God continue to cause us to love each other, and may our love for one another grow with what can only be described as God-given growth.
When people think about First Baptist Church, I pray that they will think, "Those people sure do love one another!"
4. May we be a people who love lost people.
Paul had "great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart" over those who did not know Christ. (Romans 9:2)
I pray that God might burden us even more with a deep love for those around us who do not know Christ. May our love for those without Christ be heard in our ongoing prayers, felt in our many words, and evidenced in our daily actions.
When people think about First Baptist Church, I pray that they will think, "Those people sure do love others!"
Oh God, would you make us more and more into a people who love you, love your Word, love one another, and love those who are lost.
By your Spirit and for your glory, we pray in Christ. Amen.
Revelation 22:21,
Todd Brady
Pastor
The verse is often-quoted, but certainly needs repeating. "If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14) The Apostle Paul commands us, "Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer." (Romans 12:12)
As the church, we understand that we are a God-ordained, supernatural community of redeemed individuals. First and foremost, we are a spiritual people who are about the things of God, and at the very least, we are to be a people of prayer.
On the First Monday of every month, members of First Baptist Church have begun seeking the Lord by praying intentionally and specifically for the life and work of our body. Some set aside their lunch hours to pray specifically for the church. Some gather with fellow believers at work or in their neighborhoods to pray for God’s work among our fellowship. Others fast during the day in order to be even more focused and diligent in prayer. All in all, the goal is for God to hear the concentrated prayers of his people.
Regardless of how you go about praying on the First Monday, join with your FBC brothers and sisters throughout Paducah to ask that God would do "far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us" and that to Him will "be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever, Amen." (Ephesians 3:20-20)
First Monday Prayer will be held on Monday, October 1. First Baptist’s chapel will be open from 6:00a.m.—6:00p.m. on that day for those who wish to come to the Chapel and pray. See you there!
Fall Sunday Evening Schedule
5:00pm - Adult/Youth Discipleship, Children's Choir
6:00pm - Worship Service in the Chapel, Kids On Mission
This Sunday we will be collecting The Eliza Broadus Offering for State Missions. The promotion of the offering coincides with the Season of Prayer for State Missions held each year in September. The theme for 2007 is "For the Sake of Kentucky...Learn, Pray, Give, Go". Eliza Broadus was the first President of Kentucky WMU and led the Kentucky WMU to promote the taking of an annual offering for state missions. The money given is used to support a vast array of ministries in Kentucky including state missionaries, language missions, evangelism, student work, Baptist Men on Mission special projects, Missions Education for leadership and for students, and Special Ministries that gives funds to churches and associations for mission project assistance. Our church’s goal for this offering is $6,000.
Fall Festival Volunteer Opportunity!
We would LOVE to have your help with Fall Festival—October 31st, 5-8pm! Volunteer forms can be found in the church office or in Creation Station. We are expecting a crowd of 1500-2000 people for the inflatables, clowns, petting zoo, booths, refreshments, dinners, etc. (last year we had nearly 1700). Many of these will be UNCHURCHED FAMILIES! Call Hutch at 442-2728 for more information on how you can become a part of this amazing effort to reach out to our community.

Panama International Mission Trip
We are planning an international mission trip to the country of Panama in the summer of 2008. International missions give students an opportunity to have unique experiences they will never get anywhere else. I truly believe every person should take a foreign mission trip sometime in their life, and there is no easier time to do so than in your teenage and college years. On Sunday, September 30, Brian Brewer from BFI ministries (bfiministries.com) will be speaking with our students during Sunday morning small group time and then with all students, parents, and adults interested in getting information on the trip that evening. You are not making a commitment to go by attending the meetings. It is for informational purposes to give you a better understanding of where we will be, who we will minister to, the cost of the trip, and safety precautions. If you or your student are interested in this trip, please plan on attending this meeting.
Desiring God's will for their lives and believing that includes each other, Sarah Marie Van Es and Shawn David Wasson, together with their parents invite you to share their joy as they are united in Christian Marriage on Saturday, the Sixth of October at Two O'clock in the afternoon Bethany Baptist Church at 1712 Randol Avenue in Cape Giradeau, Missouri.

Dear Church Family,
My heart has been blessed by your love and kindness shown to me and my family in the recent loss of my mother, Elise Tilford. Thank you for the visits, cards, flowers, food, and especially your prayers! We have suffered a great loss on this earth but are sustained by the knowledge that Mother now resides in heaven! I will never forget the love I have felt from my church family! Thank you for all you’ve done, in Jesus' name!

A special thank you to Ray Boren and Larry Griffith for all the help you have given me at my home and in my yard over the past few months. Your kind service to others in a time of need is what Christianity is all about. Again, thank you for your many acts of kindness.

Dear Church Family,
Thank you all so much for all the wonderful things you have done for us during the time of my surgery and recovery. We have never been the ones ministered to before, but I have to tell you that you have done a trememdous job. You all have made a difficult time easier to bear. We are glad to be a part of FBC.

Dear FBC Family,
Words cannot express my gratitude for your outpouring of prayers, encouragement, service, and financial gifts towards the Four Rivers Will Graham Celebration! Thank you for joining in where God was at work! Because of the unity of the body, God blessed our efforts. I thank Him for our church and our new pastor and look forward to what He has in store for us in the days ahead. All praise be to Him!
