Heart for the World |
 |
Because God has a heart for the world, we have a heart for the world. Indeed, God so loved the world (John 3:16)!
We are driven to minister to others and to declare the greatness of God because of God’s desire to be praised by the peoples of the world. The prayer of Psalm 67 is our prayer.
May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us,
that your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations.
Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you!
Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you judge the peoples with equity and guide the nations upon the earth.
Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you!
The earth has yielded its increase; God, our God, shall bless us.
God shall bless us; let all the ends of the earth fear him!
God’s heart beats for the peoples of the world. God blesses for the sake of his own glory and that we have a responsibility to respond to God’s blessings by seeking to promote God’s name among the peoples of Paducah, Kentucky and the world.
Of course, our heart for the world is reflected best in our daily living. However, we are also involved in specific projects to impact our world with the good news of Jesus Christ.
Current Projects:
Honduras - Heart for the World Week
Each year, a group of approximately 60 folks from our church travel to Orphanage Emmanuel near Guiamaca, Honduras for a week of service and worship. This is a family-focused, church-wide experience involving children, young people, adults, and senior adults. In addition to living and working at the orphanage, we gather each evening to worship together and focus on God’s heart for the world. This past April, Jeff Lewis from California Baptist University served as our teacher for the week.
Romania
God uses Tom Unici, a Romanian believer and member of First Baptist Church, to lead our efforts to impact the people of Romania with the gospel. Each year, people participate in short-term mission trips to this eastern European country. Activities include preaching and leading church services as well as hosting evangelistic crusades and conferences for Christian leaders. This fall, a large delegation of singers is traveling to Romania to sing in churches and minister through other acts of service.
Kiev, Ukraine
This spring, a small group of folks served the Lord in the town of Osero. Monies which were given in the memory of Dick Thomas were delivered in order to build a church building for believers there.
